This is a common issue I see with clients often so I thought I would post the problem and solution for the general public.
Symptom:
The computer turns on but hangs at the post screen. Perhaps you were using it and decided to restart and when you did it would not start. Or it boots REALLY slowly.
Solution:
I cannot say exactly why, but on a lot of computers some USB devices like Thumb Drives cause this issue. Simply power off the machine and unplug all your USB Devices and power it on and it should boot normally. From there with trial and error you can figure out what device it is. Most of the time the cause is from the User putting their Thumb Drive in and leaving it there then rebooting while it is still attached. So I always start by asking them if they have any Thumb Drives or Camera’s attached currently. They say no, then I ask them to look for anything sticking out of the front and they say.. “Ohhh yeaaaa”.
