Site launch

Hi everyone!
Welcome to the launch of a new Facebook-like site for Dangerous Minds people, called “DM Social.” I encourage you to make use of the site and contribute to what I hope will be a success.
Initially, you are able to register for a custom account and optional blog. If you’ve got an existing blog hosted elsewhere and want to bring it into this DM Social platform, let me know and I can help you with that. It’s not practical to migrate your existing accounts across from the main Dangerous Minds website, so you will have to re-register.
Having your own account on this site is really needed to make use of it. Just like Facebook or any other social network, you can provide details in your profile about you and upload a picture. This site will also allow you to send private messages to other members, build and manage friend lists, create and join groups (e.g. a group about a hobby) and discuss on an integrated forum component on all of these things. There are also the beginning steps of Twitter-like functionality – this is called “The Wire” and everyone has one. If you have a brief public message for someone, leave it on their wire.
Things coming in the future
This site is still very new and so we plan to introduce new features as soon as possible. Proper status updates should appear in the near future, and photo album support should follow in a few months’ time.
We will be designing a custom theme for the front-end to better brand it with Dangerous Minds and to make it more useful. Another thing we have planned is integration with our IRC chat room (irc.dangerous-minds.net, #Public).
Most of all, though, if you have any ideas of things you would like to be able to see or do on this site, please let me know – either through here, or leave a message on the DM Social Development blog, where you will also be able to follow brief updates with regards to ongoing development for features for this site.
I *really* like what is being done here. This site is very smooth to use. I am very excited about this.
